OMG Stuff Changed!
January 31, 2010 in Uncategorized by Ian Ferrell
Here’s a rundown of what’s down:
- Removed the Wire
- Added Comments
- Made it so when you log in you come back to where you were before
- Updated Privacy Options (If you have a blog)
- Put stuff in place to add new features easier
- Updated everyone’s blogs to the latest WordPress
- Updated our core components
- Added ajax in different places
- Themed the login page
- Sent out a broken email (Sorry about that)
As you can see, we’ve been busy working on getting everything as smooth as possible. We plan on getting a new look to the site very soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
PS: YOU CAN POST IMAGES IN THE FORUMS NOW! Just use an <img> tag.

A couple issues:
-My Groups just shows a shit ton of random groups right now…not the ones I specifically signed up for
-Advertisements at the bottom? What drove you guys to start using this? I’m purely curious. If it’s for some support to help run the site, I understand. If anything, is there a way to make it sort of like google’s ads, so that all we have to deal with are text ads, rather than obnoxious visual banners?
-Why remove the wire?? Comments are nice and all, but they only allow us to comment on posted stories…I’m confused as to why you guys removed this.
P.S: The flickr roll of current photos is completely gone as well.
I hate to sound all whiney…but I miss the wire =/.
-Looking into it. We’ll probably have it fixed tomorrow.
-The ad spot has actually been there for about two weeks. We have control over who publishes ads, and it will just be a static image. This server doesn’t pay for itself
-The wire is gone because comments have taken their place. You can send someone a message if you need to get something right to them.
-We’ll have to fix the Flickr plugin to get it working tomorrow. The goal was to keep the site down for the least amount of time. We’ll start rolling things back in and fixing bugs throughout the week.
We’ll just see what happens it may seem like a big change at first, but we feel that people will eventually get why the wire was removed.
The wire was cool, but being able to comment on statuses, etc will make it much more social, more like Facebook is now.
Thanks Ian =]. Yeah, I guess I’ll just have to get used to not being able to write on the wire….it was nice having a place where we could just drop a message, like facebook’s wall, but I see why comments were used as well. You guys have been doing great work, I appreciate it.
Possibly, Conor….I’m curious how many people will want to comment on just statuses, though. Should be interesting to see how the change takes effect.
I’m curious as well. I suppose you could treat the persons latest status as a wire by leaving a comment. I think it makes it easier to just keep all the comments/replies into one status update, instead of going back and forth on each others wires.
And what’s cool is that you can comment on pretty much anything that happens on the activity feed.
